Sajama Cut is a rock band from Jakarta, Indonesia, known for their dark intense lyrics and their melancholy melodies. Sajama Cut is Marcel Thee (vocals, guitars, various instruments) and was formed in 2001, with a rotating cast of members for both live and studio purposes. They have released two albums, along with numerous compilations, most notably the best selling "JKT:SKRG" (Jakarta Now!) compilation, and had a major radio hit when their single "Less Afraid" appeared on the major motion picture Janji Joni (and its OST), in which the song could be heard almost in its entirety two times during the movie. Videos for the singles Fallen Japanese and Alibi are staples in both local TV channels in South-East Asia, and commercial channels, such as MTV, O-Channel, JAKTV, and STV. Sajama Cut released their first indie album Apologia (2002) to unanimous praise from the indie community and media. Earning a perfect point in the influential independent magazine Deathrockstar, as well as gathering praise from youth magazines such as Ripple, and Hai. The band release their second album, the semi-concept LP The Osaka Journals in 2005, with distribution help from the major label Universal Music Indonesia. With their name now more widely known amongst the music community, the band released 2 singles (and 2 videos) for "Fallen Japanese", and "Alibi". The album The Osaka Journals received an even larger critical acclaim in the media, including MTV Trax Magazine, Rolling Stone Indonesia, etc. With the international marketed newspaper Jakarta Post giving it a great review. In 2006, Sajama Cut also contributed 4 songs to another motion picture "Foto, Kotak, Jendela". In mid-2008, "L’Internationale"; remix album version of the songs from The Osaka Journals with remixes from international producers from Japan, America, Britain, Indonesia, Norway, Italy, Scotland, Portugal, Germany, Venezuella, Hong Kong, etc, will be released. The first single being a remix of Nemesis/Murder from the international 8-bit artist YMCK, from Tokyo, Japan. The second single will be Season Finale (Boy VS Bacteria mix). Prior to the release of L’Internationale, a series of limited edition remix EPs, will be released. The first of these is The Nemesis EP, which was released in November 2007. Sajama Cut are currently recording new materials and will release their newest album later in 2008. "L’internationale", the remix album, will be released in April 2008. |
